Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with Ghassan Salamé, the special envoy of the UN Secretary General of Libya.
During the conversation, Lavrov and Salamé exchanged their views on the current situation in Libya. At the same time, emphasis on ending the armed confrontation and establishing a broad, sustainable national dialogue was placed. This is an important factor to bring the country out of the protracted crisis.
Russian side confirmed its willingness to advance political process in Libya that must be nanifested in the formation of unified government bodies in order to solve existing problems, including the spread of extremist ideology and terrorism. In addition, support for Salame’s mediation efforts was expressed.
