Lavrov: Middle East Stability Impossible Without Resolving Gaza Conflict

09 September

Achieving stability in the Middle East is unattainable without a solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated during a meeting of the Strategic Dialogue between Russia and the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Persian Gulf (GCC).

“At our last meeting in Moscow, we emphasized that true stability in the Middle East cannot be realized without addressing the region's oldest issue — the Palestinian-Israeli conflict — through the establishment of a Palestinian state in accordance with UN resolutions,” Lavrov said. He added, “Time has once again proven that without resolving this problem, the region cannot develop stably. Since October 2023, the confrontation has experienced a significant and dramatic escalation.”

Lavrov highlighted the unprecedented scale of violence in the recent escalation. “This time, the violence has reached catastrophic proportions. The number of civilian casualties in the Gaza Strip has already surpassed the total casualties from all previous Arab-Israeli wars,” he stated.
