Lavrov: none of the issues in the Arctic doesn’t require the military solution

All issues arising in the Arctic can and should be resolve by political means at the negotiating table. Speaking today at the Arctic Forum in St.Petersburg, about this the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov declared.

 

 

«We are convinced that there is no conflict potential in the Arctic and all issues arising here can and should be solved by political means at the negotiating table. None of these issues requires the military solution», he stressed, in particular.

 

 

We recall that the International Arctic Forum «The Arctic is the Territory of Dialogue» is one of the key platforms for discussing the problems and prospects of the Arctic region at the global level. The participants of the event discuss such topics as the prospects for the development of the Northern Sea Route, environmental problems and responsible environmental management in the Arctic, development of the Arctic shelf, production and use of liquefied natural gas, climate change, interstate cooperation in the Arctic, etc.

 

 

Among the participants of the plenary meeting today are the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, as well as the leaders of the Scandinavian states: Finnish President Sauli Niinisto, Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg, the head of the Swedish government Stefan Leuven and the President of Iceland, Gudni Thorlacius Johannesson.
