Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said he expects to discuss the implementation of the 2020 and 2021 agreements of the three countries' presidents during a meeting with his colleagues from Armenia and Azerbaijan that began in Astana on Friday, in order to understand "how to move forward."
"Proceeding from the fact that time is running fast, events are developing quite rapidly, I believe that today is a very convenient occasion to talk on this topic and see what we can report to our leaders regarding the implementation of the agreements they signed," Lavrov said, opening the trilateral meeting of the foreign ministers of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia.
The Russian foreign minister expressed confidence that the meeting would help to "better understand how to move forward."
Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov, in turn, noted that since the last meeting in the trilateral format in May this year, there has been a significant number of contacts both bilaterally and multilaterally.
"It seems to me, from this point of view, it would be useful to talk, to discuss the issues, the development that has been in this period of time. At least from our side, we will make a special focus on the dimension of the post-conflict settlement which the foreign ministers are directly responsible for: these are the issues of the peace treaty we recently had a meeting on," Bayramov said.
He added that it would be useful to talk "about other issues of peaceful settlement, which include the delimitation of state borders, opening of communications," as well as issues of humanitarian nature.
Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said he considers the meeting a good opportunity to find solutions to the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement in line with the statements of the three countries' presidents.
