Negotiators in Vienna to restore the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on Iran's nuclear program have made significant progress, but a final decision has yet to be made, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a press conference on Tuesday.
"Negotiations are underway, substantial progress has been made. But no final decision has been made yet. There remain questions that require already political decisions in the capitals of the most interested states, first of all, the United States and Iran," he said, answering a question to TASS.
"We, like other participants in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, are trying to create the most favorable conditions possible so that a final solution can be found. To guess as to whether this will happen in the next few days or in a couple of weeks is, in my opinion, counterproductive right now. The negotiators in Vienna are working with the aim of achieving a result as quickly as possible," Lavrov said.
Meetings of the Joint commission of Iran and the international "Five" (Russia, Great Britain, Germany, China and France) have been taking place in Vienna since early April, and expert-level work is underway in three working groups to resolve practical issues for the resumption of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on the Iranian nuclear program. This involves lifting Washington's sanctions on Tehran, getting the US back into the deal, and meeting Iran's nuclear obligations.
Representatives of the countries participating in the agreement are also holding consultations with the US delegation. There are no direct talks between US emissaries and Iranian representatives in Vienna. Negotiators note steady progress in the work. Experts also continue to work on the text of the future agreement.
