Lavrov: Russia and Iran are creating mechanisms of cooperation, free from Western diktat

31 August 2022

Moscow and Tehran are focusing on creating reliable mechanisms that will allow cooperation to develop independently of Western diktat, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Wednesday as he opened talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian.

"Our Western colleagues in a bid to establish their complete dominance in the world purposefully, consistently destroy the entire structure of international relations, but against this background, we are focusing together with our friends, including, of course, the Islamic Republic of Iran, on creating reliable, constructive mechanisms that will allow developing mutually beneficial cooperation independently of any diktat," he said.

Lavrov noted that the leadership of the two countries have identified clear areas of application of efforts. "Today we will certainly have to look at all areas of economic, humanitarian and cultural ties between our countries and discuss the tasks in the sphere of foreign policy that have been set by our leaders," he pointed out.
