Lavrov: Russia and Kazakhstan are building a dialogue with the Taliban government from consonant positions

Russia and Kazakhstan hold similar positions, building a dialogue with the interim government of Afghanistan in the interests of a lasting inter-Afghan settlement and the security of the southern borders of the CIS. This was stated in an article by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, "Russia and Kazakhstan: cooperation without borders," published in the "Rossiyskaya Gazeta" on Tuesday.

"Touch of elbows helps us in solving operational tasks. We regularly analyze together the terrorist and drug threats emanating from Afghanistan. We build a dialogue with the de facto authorities of this country from consonant positions - in the interests of a lasting inter-Afghan settlement and the elimination of multifaceted challenges on the southern borders of the CIS," said the Russian Foreign Minister.

Lavrov recalled that in accordance with the Treaty between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation on Good-Neighborliness and Alliance in the 21st Century, concluded in 2013, the countries pursue a coordinated foreign policy based on allied commitments and the use of multilateral associations: the Collective Security Treaty Organization, the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

"Coordinated actions by Moscow and Nur-Sultan allow us to reliably ensure the necessary level of security, the inviolability of the borders of Russia and Kazakhstan, as well as their closest allies. This is especially important given the volatile military and political situation in South Asia, the Middle East, and the Asia-Pacific region," he said.
