Russia and Turkmenistan will sign a solid package of documents on trade and economic cooperation between the two countries, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said, opening talks with Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov on Tuesday.
"Tomorrow there will be a meeting led by the co-chairman of the intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation. I know that a solid package of documents has been prepared, which once again emphasizes the concrete and substantive nature of our contacts, which always end with agreements that contribute to the development of our countries and our cooperation," Lavrov said.
"Turkmenistan is our close friend and strategic partner," the foreign minister emphasized. - "We pay special attention to the development of our bilateral relations and cooperation on regional and international levels. He noted that parliamentary cooperation between the two countries has reached a new level."
Russia values the humanitarian ties and careful treatment of the Russian language and Russian culture in Turkmenistan, Lavrov emphasized. The minister said that joint initiatives in the humanitarian sphere such as construction of a new building of the Russian Drama Theatre in Ashgabat and foundation of the Russian-Turkmen University are now being implemented. It will organically complement the Pushkin School that will also be renovating its facilities.
Moscow and Ashgabat cooperate closely within the CIS, the UN, the Caspian Five and strengthen the dialogue between Central Asia and Russia, Lavrov stressed.
