The initiative to end mutual contacts comes not from Russia, but from the United States, it is their choice and Moscow does not intend to impose on Washington. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Friday, following his participation in a meeting of foreign ministers of the Group of Twenty (G20).
"We did not stop our mutual contacts, the United States did," he said. - "That's all I can say. We're not chasing anyone, offering to meet. If they don't want to talk, that's their choice."
Turning to the role of Indonesia as the G20 chairman and in the international arena as a whole, the Russian foreign minister emphasized that the Indonesian leadership "has a responsible position and understands the importance of dialogue in accordance with international law, which, in turn, is based on the principles of sovereign equality".
"In my opinion, this is a very correct position for Indonesia both as a [sovereign] state, as a UN member state, as the G20 chair, and as the future chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)," Lavrov summarized.
