24 October 2022

Russia considers it important to adhere to the two-state solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Monday at a press conference following talks with Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Hissein Brahim Taha.

"Regarding the Palestinian issue, we believe that attempts to break down the international legal framework for resolving this problem on the basis of the two-state solution must stop. Such attempts are being observed," he said. - "Both the principle laid down by a resolution of the UN Security Council and General Assembly and the principles of the Arab peace initiative are being revised."

Lavrov pointed out that Moscow attaches particular importance to the efforts the Palestinians are currently making to restore unity among their ranks.

"Russia has already held several meetings with delegates from all Palestinian factions, similar efforts are being made by Egypt, Algeria and other states, including OIC countries. We will continue these efforts and hope that we will continue to speak with one voice within the UN when discussing the Palestinian question," the minister added.
