Russia completes the negotiation process with neighboring countries to ensure the transparent operation of biological laboratories for the purpose of common security, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Wednesday during a government hour at a plenary session of the State Duma.

"Most of our neighboring countries have American, and Pentagon-owned, biological laboratories. It's very, very difficult to understand what's being done in them," he said. - "And we are now completing the negotiation process with all of our relevant neighboring countries that have such laboratories so that they work in a transparent manner, so that there is no foreign military there, because this is far from pure medicine and health, this is already issues of pathogens that can be used as warfare agents".

According to Lavrov, this is one example that should push various associations in the post-Soviet space, including the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and the CIS, to cooperate. "We need to act more actively, more creatively, and as the largest country of the EAEU, Russia should and feels [its] responsibility for its effective development," the foreign minister added.
