05 December 2022

Russia is interested in every possible way to promote the conclusion of a peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said this on Monday, opening talks with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov.

"An important topic is the course of implementation of the trilateral agreements of the leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia and Russia, which were reached in November 2020, in January, November 2021, and in late October there was another summit in Sochi," the Russian foreign minister said.

"We are interested in promoting the unblocking of transport ties, border delimitation, conclusion of a peace treaty and strengthening confidence-building measures, including contacts between civic organizations, political scientists and parliamentarians," Lavrov said.

The Russian foreign minister said the sides will also discuss interaction in the region and in multilateral structures. "Our agenda always includes interaction in the region, the Caspian Sea issues, contacts within the United Nations, the OSCE, the Commonwealth of Independent States and other processes that take place in our common space," Lavrov added.

The minister stressed that this year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the countries. "The year is special - 30 years of diplomatic relations. And by the way, the exchange of visits is stipulated in the plan of events, which we have approved to worthily celebrate this anniversary," he continued. - "Of course, the special significance of this year is the signing of the declaration on alliance relations during the visit of President Ilham Aliyev to Moscow, which has now consolidated the new quality of relations between Russia and Azerbaijan. And, of course, today is a good opportunity to see how in all areas of our bilateral contacts are implemented the principles that the presidents laid down in this most important document".
