Lavrov: Russia is not siding with anyone in the Libyan conflict

06 December 2019

Russia is not siding with anyone in the Libyan conflict and puts Libyan interests at the forefront, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told interview with the Italian news agency.

"Russian policy is exclusively responsible, has no geopolitical dimension puts Libyan interests at the forefront. We are not siding with anyone in this conflict," RIA Novosti quoted Russian Foreign Minister as saying.

Sergey Lavrov stressed "Russia's approaches to resolving crises – whether in the Middle East or other regions of the world - invariably rely on the principle of an all-encompassing national dialogue aimed at finding compromise solutions based on international law and corresponding UN Security Council resolutions”.

"Our goal is to help the Libyans overcome the chaos into which their country was plunged eight years ago as a result of NATO’s illegitimate intervention, to restore peace and security that are essential for sustainable development. I think this is how the future of Libya is seen not only by us, but the entire international community as well," Lavrov said.
