Lavrov: Russia, Kazakhstan to continue building up strategic ties

11 April 2023

Russia and Kazakhstan will continue to build up bilateral allied and strategic relations. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said this on Tuesday, opening talks with Kazakhstan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Murat Nurtleu.

Lavrov congratulated his colleague on his appointment. "I am sure that together with you, we will continue to work actively on the implementation of those agreements that our presidents reach, to ensure continuity in relations. You have a very wealth of experience, including in the foreign policy sphere. So I am convinced that we will continue to build up our allied, strategic and partnership relations," Lavrov said.

The Russian foreign minister drew attention to the fact that Presidents of Russia and Kazakhstan Vladimir Putin and Kassym-Jomart Tokayev have intensive contacts. "Last year, the presidents and heads of government met more than 15 times, regular contacts by phone, inter-parliamentary ties, the intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation, and cultural ties are active. Just recently the 'Russian Seasons' were successfully held in Kazakhstan," he added.

"And, of course, in our common space integration associations - the EEU, CSTO, CIS, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization - these are all areas that require our constant attention, and I am convinced that on these issues, as well as on the international agenda, we will have a fruitful exchange today," Lavrov noted.
