Lavrov: Russia reminded Ghani of his commitment to start the political process in earnest

At a meeting with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani the Russian side has reminded about the commitment of Kabul and the Taliban (banned in the Russian Federation) to start seriously the political process of Afghan settlement, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told reporters at the international conference, "Central and South Asia: Regional Interconnectedness. Challenges and Opportunities."


"I have no obligations to President Ghani," Lavrov said when asked if Russia had promised anything to the Afghan president. - "President Ghani, like the Taliban, has a commitment to start a political process in earnest. We reminded him of this, we hope that all sides of this situation will honor the agreements, which were achieved with the participation of the international community".


Lavrov and Ghani met on Friday on the sidelines of the international conference in Tashkent.
