29 December 2020

The next meeting of the high-level Russian-Turkish Cooperation Council will be held as soon as circumstances permit, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Tuesday, opening a meeting of the Joint strategic planning group with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu.

"We are planning talks on a wide range of issues that we must prepare for consideration at the next meeting of the high-level Cooperation Council, which our presidents will hold as soon as circumstances permit," he said.

The Russian Foreign Minister said he would discuss with his Turkish counterpart the situation in the economy, political dialogue, culture and humanitarian exchange, religious ties and tourism. In addition, he continued, the sides will discuss the work of the Astana format on the Syrian settlement, the situation in Libya and the Nagorno-Karabakh issue. "The geography of our cooperation is both the Black Sea region and Central Asia, on which we would like to continue a productive exchange of views. And globally, we interact in international structures - first of all the UN, the OSCE, the Council of Europe. An exchange of views on all these issues helps harmonize positions and better understand each other. We really appreciate our wide-ranging and trustful dialogue," Lavrov stressed.

The high-level Cooperation Council was established by the presidents of Russia and Turkey in 2010. The council is designed to coordinate the implementation of projects of political, trade and economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation.
