Today in Moscow Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov met with Secretary-General of ASEAN Lim Jock Hoi.

Welcoming the guest, the Russian Foreign Minister noted that ASEAN is one of the most influential, authoritative and successful regional organizations, and an important part of Russia's foreign policy.

"We appreciate that in 2018, the dialogue between Russia and ASEAN was brought to a strategic level. One of the results of this event was the improvement and consolidation of our coordination in the UN and other international platforms on key global and regional issues that affect the fundamental interests of Russia and the member countries, including the fight against terrorism, drug trafficking, transnational crime, the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, arms control and information security", Sergey Lavrov said.

In addition, the Minister recalled the initiative of Russian President Vladimir Putin, who at the Russia-ASEAN summit in 2016 announced the prospects of forming the Great Eurasian Partnership with the participation of the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union  (EAEU), the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and ASEAN.

ASEAN includes ten countries - Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, as well as Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia.
