Lavrov says new foreign policy concept will soon be approved by Russian president

27 February 2023

The updated version of the Russian Foreign Policy Concept should be approved by the president in the near future. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said this on Monday, opening a meeting with the heads of territorial bodies - representatives of the Russian MFA in the subjects of the Federation.

"The changes taking place in the world are reflected in the draft foreign policy concept, it should be approved by the president in the very near future, and we count on it," the foreign minister said.

He stressed that Russia will continue to pursue an independent foreign policy course. "It is directed on all fronts, and we are ready for equal and mutually beneficial relations with everyone, showing a reciprocal willingness. Only on equal and mutually beneficial terms. Attempts by the West to impose their will on everyone else, to impose their so-called rules by which they want to establish and maintain a pro-Western order, they are futile and absolutely futureless," Lavrov said.

According to him, the foreign ministry will be working with redoubled vigor in the current period in the interests of the country, ensuring favorable external conditions for its development and improving the well-being of Russians and the state's security.
