Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Friday at a meeting with Ahmed Maiteeq, deputy chairman of Libya's National Accord Government (LNA), said Russian companies are ready to resume their work in Libya as the situation in the Arab country improves.

"While discussing the prospects for the development of bilateral mutually beneficial trade and economic ties, Sergey Lavrov confirmed the readiness of Russian companies to resume their activities in Libya as the military and political situation in that country normalizes," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The Ministry pointed out that Maiteeq also met on Friday with Mikhail Bogdanov, the Russian President's Special Representative for the Middle East and Africa and Deputy Foreign Minister. "The need for further constructive work on the formation of unified authorities for the transition period within the framework of the Libyan political dialogue forum on a consensual basis was confirmed," the diplomatic office said.

The Foreign Ministry stressed that Russia expressed its readiness "to continue cooperation with the Libyan sides to bring their positions closer, proceeding from the importance for the intensifying inter-Libyan dialogue to be inclusive, taking into account all influential political forces in the country, aimed at ensuring the territorial integrity, unity and sovereignty of the Libyan state".

"Russia emphasized the importance of intensifying international efforts for a speedy withdrawal of Libya from the protracted internal political crisis, with the UN leading role, in accordance with the decisions of the Berlin International Conference and UN Security Council Resolution 2510," the diplomatic mission added.
