On the example of Venezuela, the US realized that it is necessary to cooperate with the legitimate authorities in Syria, represented by President Bashar al-Assad, so they have closed contacts with Damascus on prisoners of war, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at a press conference on the results of Russia's diplomatic activity in 2022.
According to the minister, the Americans realized that "it makes no sense to nurture some Guaido (Venezuelan opposition leader - TASS) for Venezuela," that they should work with those who have the mandate of the people. "Now the same tendencies are being applied to Bashar al-Assad. The Americans have closed contacts with the Syrians on prisoners of war," Lavrov noted.
