Deep and not entirely positive changes are now taking place in the international arena, the whole system is feverish, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Wednesday, speaking at a government hour at a plenary session of the State Duma.
"President [Vladimir Putin] has repeatedly spoken about the situation in the international arena and our foreign policy tasks and initiatives. He has set all the principal emphases recently during expanded meetings of the boards of our ministry and the ministry of defense, in other speeches and press conferences. Deep changes are taking place on the international arena, changes that are not entirely positive, to put it mildly. The whole system is feverish," he said.
Lavrov pointed out that the states of the so-called historical West are still not ready to accept the reality of the emerging multipolar world, which should be more just and democratic than the world dominated by one state. According to him, "the Westerners led by the United States are trying to oppose the objective course of history, trying to secure unilateral advantages for themselves," without taking into account the interests of others.
