Russia is assisting in the modernization of the armed forces of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. This is stated in an article by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, published in Rossiyskaya Gazeta on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations with the Central Asian states.

"Security cooperation is being strengthened. Consultations on combating international terrorism are held on a regular basis, relevant bilateral projects are implemented, and assistance is provided for the training of professional personnel," he pointed out. - "Military and military-technical cooperation is actively developing. Medium- and long-term programs of military-technical assistance aimed at modernizing the armed forces of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan are being implemented".

Lavrov emphasized that the presence of the 201st Russian military base in Tajikistan and Russian aviation group in the Kyrgyz city of Kant remained a key factor in ensuring the unified system of collective security in the region and neutralization of terrorist threats.

The minister also pointed to the successful operation of peacekeeping forces of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) in Kazakhstan in early 2022. "I would especially note the joint work of the CIS, CSTO and SCO anti-terrorist and anti-drug structures. The effective actions of the CSTO peacekeeping forces in January 2022 to assist Kazakhstan in stabilizing the internal political situation after the mass disturbances supported from the outside were a clear indication of the maturity and high reliability of this organization. To a large extent, it helped to curb threats to the security of the entire Central Asian region," said the Russian foreign minister.
