Relations between Moscow and Tashkent have the character of strategic partnership and alliance and are on the rise, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Tuesday, opening talks with Uzbek Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov.
"We note with satisfaction that our relations of strategic partnership and alliance are on the rise," he said.
Lavrov also informed that the talks would be largely devoted to the progress of preparations for Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev's state visit to Russia. "We will look at all spheres of our interaction. We will try to come to conclusions, which will be reported to our leaders. So we count on fruitful work," the minister added.
Sputnik V production launch in Uzbekistan
Moscow and Tashkent note the importance of launching production of the Russian Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine in Uzbekistan as soon as possible, Lavrov said. "We talked, of course, about mutual assistance in fighting the spread of a new coronavirus infection. The importance of launching production of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine in Uzbekistan as soon as possible was noted. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our friends for accelerating the registration of the drug in the Republic of Uzbekistan," Lavrov said.
Russia was the first in the world to register the Sputnik V vaccine on August 11, 2020. The drug was registered in Uzbekistan in mid-February and will be used for mass vaccination of the population.
