Lavrov: There Will Be No Winners in the Arab-Israeli Conflict

01 November

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has called for an end to the bloodshed in the Middle East, stressing that no side can achieve victory through armed confrontation. In an interview with Turkey's Hürriyet, he emphasized Russia’s stance on fostering conditions for a political solution.

“We urge restraint from actions that could lead to further escalation and loss of control,” Lavrov stated. “There will be no winners in this conflict. The path to normalization lies in ending the bloodshed and creating the basis for a political resolution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, based on internationally recognized principles, including the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the 1967 borders.”

Lavrov expressed confidence that only such a resolution can ensure lasting peace in the Middle East. He pointed out that the unresolved Arab-Israeli conflict has led to more violence, with tens of thousands of Palestinians killed in Gaza, thousands affected in Lebanon, and an increasing number of countries drawn into the crisis.

He also reminded that Russia has condemned the targeted killings by Israel of political leaders from Hamas, Hezbollah, and senior Iranian military officials. “We proposed that these actions be assessed by the UN Security Council. However, due to resistance from Western members, this was not achieved,” he noted.
