Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is scheduled to attend the BRICS Foreign Ministers' meeting on September 20 during the 78 UN General Assembly session in New York. This information was confirmed by the Russian foreign ministry.
In addition to the BRICS meeting, Lavrov's agenda for the General Assembly session, which runs from September 19 to 26, includes approximately 20 bilateral meetings and discussions with representatives of international organizations. Among these engagements, Lavrov is set to hold talks with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
"On September 20, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is scheduled to participate in a meeting of BRICS foreign ministers, taking place alongside the 78 session of the UN General Assembly in New York, USA. During this meeting, the participants will engage in discussions on pressing international matters, including those featured on the agenda of the 78 UN General Assembly session," the statement conveyed.
The statement highlights that the meeting will encompass deliberations on collaboration within the BRICS framework and the execution of resolutions adopted at the summit in South Africa. The Russian foreign ministry also noted that Lavrov will provide his counterparts with insights into Russia's forthcoming presidency within the association in 2024.
