Lavrov to take part in Russia-Islamic World group meeting on June 9

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will take part in the June 9 meeting of the Group of Strategic Vision "Russia - Islamic World",  Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a briefing on Wednesday.


"On June 9, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will take part in a meeting of the Russia-Islamic World Group of Strategic Vision with the heads of diplomatic missions of member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation accredited in Moscow. Rustam Minnikhanov, President of the Republic of Tatarstan, chairs the group," she said.


"The members of the group will share information on forums, conferences, festivals, work with the business community, journalists, clergy and youth since the previous meeting with the ambassadors of the countries of the said association, the general purpose of which is to develop cooperation in various fields between the Russian Federation and the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation," the diplomat added.


The Group of Strategic Vision "Russia - Islamic World" was established in 2006 under the leadership of Yevgeny Primakov and the first president of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiyev after Russia joined the Organization of Islamic Cooperation as an observer. It includes 33 prominent statesmen and public figures from 27 countries, including former prime ministers and foreign ministers and major theologians from Indonesia, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Kuwait and other countries.
