At a meeting on Wednesday with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu on the margins of a G20 meeting of foreign ministers, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stressed that extending the grain deal is possible only if the interests of Russian agricultural and fertilizer producers are taken into account.
"While discussing the prospects of implementing the Black Sea grain initiative, it was stressed from the Russian side that extending the grain package agreement is possible only if the interests of Russian producers of agricultural products and fertilizers in terms of unhindered access to world markets are taken into account," the Russian foreign ministry said in a statement.
In addition, the ministers discussed Russia-Turkey cooperation in the trade and economic sphere, including measures of assistance to Ankara in eliminating the consequences of the February earthquake. The foreign ministers of the two countries also addressed the normalization of ties between Turkey and Syria.
"A number of international problems were considered, including the situation in Syria. Special attention was paid to the work of the concerned countries in the region on the normalization of Turkish-Syrian ties - at the same time as increasing joint efforts to eliminate the terrorist threat in the Syrian Arab Republic (SAR)," the Russian foreign ministry added. The ministers also reviewed the schedule of upcoming contacts at various levels.
