Lavrov: Turkey may raise the issue of dialogue between Russia and the West

11 October 2022

Ankara may raise the issue of organizing a dialogue between Moscow and the West at a meeting between Turkish and Russian Presidents Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Vladimir Putin in Astana on October 12, if Turkey is really interested in this. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said this on Tuesday on the "60 Minutes" program on the Rossiya 1 TV channel.

"It is clear to me that if Turkish colleagues are thinking about it, they will have a great opportunity this week during the meeting of Presidents Erdogan and Putin, who will be together at events in Astana, to raise such questions with us. We have not heard anything else besides public announcements," the head of the Russian diplomatic mission said.

"This is not the first time when our partners announce some initiatives publicly and draw attention to them, and then begin to see who will react," he continued. - "If you read and believe what the Turkish press says, this idea of Mr. Erdogan was kind of pushed by the Americans, and the Turks seem to have got a half positive nod."
