Lavrov will outline Russia's approaches to solving international problems at "Primakov Readings"

07 December 2022

On Wednesday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will take part in a meeting of the scientific and expert international forum "Primakov Readings," which this year is devoted to the Eurasian dimension of the transformation of the world order. The forum kicked off on Tuesday at the World Trade Center and gathered a host of prominent Russian and foreign politicians, experts, and diplomats.

Lavrov will deliver his opening remarks at the forum's morning session, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said. "In his speech, the head of the Russian foreign ministry plans to share his assessments of events taking place in the world and outline Russian approaches to solving current international problems," the diplomat pointed out. The minister will also answer the questions of the session participants.

The Russian foreign minister is taking part in the forum for the eighth time. Traditionally, Lavrov touches on a wide range of international issues at the event. Last year, the minister paid attention to the settlement of international conflicts in Syria, Nagorno-Karabakh, Afghanistan, Libya, Iran, the Korean Peninsula and many other hotspots. The minister then touched upon the Ukrainian issue, which has become a key one in the international arena this year. In his speech last year, the minister also emphasized that Russia would continue to actively promote the resolution of conflicts in the world in the direction of polycentricity, based on the collective leadership of the leading states in solving global problems.

The head of the Russian diplomatic corps has consistently defended this Russian position. He has repeatedly pointed out that the world is moving toward a more just world order, multipolarity. "The West must reconsider its place not only in terms of relations with the Russian Federation, but also in world politics as a whole. One cannot pretend that only a group of countries - a minority of the world community - will determine the parameters, criteria and specific directions of life of the entire planet," the minister said at a meeting.

In addition to Lavrov's speech, several sessions are scheduled for Wednesday at the forum. The first will be devoted to the interaction of Russia and Turkey in the transformation of the world order. Separately, the security issues in Eurasia, the prospects for its provision and the changing balance of power in the Middle East will be addressed.
