Lavrov: Yevgeny Primakov's "philosophy" on the Middle East remains relevant today

28 October 2019

The "calling card" of Yevgeny Primakov's diplomatic style was an amazing ability to win over interlocutors and make compromises, not only with like-minded people, but also with opponents, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at the meeting of the academic Council of IMEMO RAS (The Institute of World Economy and International Relations), dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the famous Russian diplomat.

"These qualities have earned great respect from foreign leaders and colleagues," the Minister said.

As for the" Middle East Affairs", Primakov, according to Lavrov, "brilliantly understood" them all.

"He understood better than others the danger of geopolitical engineering on the so-called "democratization" of this region without taking into account local specifics. Unfortunately, his competent opinion was not listened to in the West, they acted in Iraq, Libya, and Syria, and tried to act like "bulls in a china shop". We see the results today on the examples of the destruction of statehood, rampant terrorism, the erosion of the unique ethnic and religious mosaic, the large-scale migration crisis, " RIA Novosti quoted the Russian foreign Minister as saying.

The philosophy of Yevgeny Primakov, as Lavrov stressed, remains fully relevant today, when the world community has to solve a number of serious problems, from long-term pacification in the Middle East and North Africa to ensuring international information security.
