King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain, Emir Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah of Kuwait and Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said of Oman congratulated Recep Tayyip Erdogan on his re-election as Turkish president on Sunday. This was reported by the state agencies of the three countries.
The king of Bahrain wished Erdogan to meet the expectations of the Turkish people and also praised the relations between the countries, stressing Manama's desire to intensify cooperation with Ankara. The leaders of Kuwait and Oman also expressed their hope for further development of cooperation with the republic.
Earlier, the heads of other Persian Gulf monarchies - Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, President of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani - had sent congratulations to Erdogan. The UAE president also had a telephone conversation with his Turkish counterpart.
Turkey's Supreme Electoral Council (CEC) declared, based on preliminary results, Erdogan's victory in the second round of the presidential election. After processing 99.43% of the ballots, he gets 52.14% of the votes, while Kemal Kilicdaroglu, the opposition candidate, gets 47.86%.
