Leaders of Russia and Uzbekistan confirmed their desire to strengthen partnership between the countries

Russian President Vladimir Putin and President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev in a telephone conversation on New Year's eve congratulated each other on the coming holidays and reaffirmed the desire to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries, especially in the trade and economic sphere, the Kremlin press service reports.


"The heads of state warmly congratulated each other on New Year," the report reads. - "Both sides reaffirmed the desire to further strengthen relations of alliance and strategic partnership between Russia and Uzbekistan, to enhance mutually beneficial cooperation, especially in the trade and economic sphere".


It is noted that the leaders highly appreciated Uzbekistan's chairmanship of the CIS in 2020. "In addition, the importance of obtaining the republic's observer status in the Eurasian Economic Union this year was emphasized," the press service of the Russian head of state said.


According to the Kremlin's website, Putin also addressed a congratulatory message to Mirziyoyev in which he "stated with satisfaction that in the outgoing year it was possible to ensure progressive development of the entire complex of Russian-Uzbekistan relations." In addition, he noted the expansion of constructive cooperation in political, trade and economic, humanitarian and many other areas, as well as cooperation within the framework of various international organizations. The Russian President stressed that granting Uzbekistan the observer state status in the EEU allowed "to outline new prospects for multilateral dialogue in the Eurasian space".

 

The Russian leader also congratulated other heads of state and government on Christmas and New Year. According to the Kremlin website, the congratulatory message to acting Kyrgyz President Talant Mamytov emphasized "the high level of Russian-Kyrgyz relations of alliance and strategic partnership." "Putin stressed that Russia and Kyrgyzstan interact constructively within the framework of Eurasian integration processes and join efforts to combat threats to regional and international security, including the coronavirus pandemic," the statement said. The Russian President expressed hope that the multifaceted cooperation between the two countries would develop in the coming year for the benefit of the peoples of these states.


In his letter to President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, Putin emphasized that the passing year was marked by the dynamic development of bilateral relations based on the principles of strategic partnership. According to the Russian leader, "much has been done to expand constructive ties in trade, economic, energy and humanitarian spheres".
