Lebanese Army kills an IS terrorist network on the border with Syria

Special units of the Lebanese army conducted an operation in the areas bordering Syria against an underground terrorist network affiliated with the extremist group Islamic State (IS, banned in Russia). This was reported in a statement issued Thursday by the Lebanese Armed Forces Command.


"During a raid in the mountain gorge of Wadi Khaled, a terrorist wanted by the authorities who was providing weapons and explosives to IS cells in northern Lebanon and the Bekaa Valley was eliminated," the document said. - "He was shot and killed while trying to escape by car from an army patrol".


The report noted that Lebanese soldiers who were pursuing the terrorist were fired upon from the Syrian side of the border. "The fighters were firing large-caliber machine guns from the village of al-Maajir," it reported. - "There were no casualties among the Lebanese military".


In March, the Lebanese Supreme Defense Council approved a plan to strengthen security measures in the country, which includes a series of preventive operations in response to information about the activation of IS terrorist networks.
