Lebanese Embassy in Moscow lowered the flag in memory of the victims of the Beirut explosion

The Lebanese diplomatic mission in Moscow on Wednesday lowered the national flag in a sign of mourning for the victims of the explosion in the port of Beirut.


The Embassy is closed due to three days of national mourning in the Republic. Flowers and candles are brought to the building of the diplomatic mission. At the entrance, there is a child's drawing with the text in Russian and Arabic: "Dear friends! I'm very sorry! God bless you! We are with you!"


A powerful explosion occurred on Tuesday in the area of the seaport of Beirut near the base of the Lebanese Navy. The blast destroyed and damaged dozens of homes and cars, and shattered windows in many districts of the capital. According to local authorities, the cause of the explosion was the detonation of 2,700 tons of ammonium nitrate, confiscated by customs in 2015, stored in a warehouse.


According to the latest data, as a result of the incident, more than 100 people were killed, more than 4 thousand were injured. The country is in mourning. The capital of Lebanon is recognized as a disaster area, and the city is under a state of emergency for two weeks.
