Lebanon's Middle East Airlines (MEA) is ready to launch regular flights to Russia, acting Lebanese Tourism Minister Avedis Guidanian told RIA Novosti. According to him, direct flights can be launched when the number of tourists from Russia reaches 50-100 thousand people a year.
Before the large-scale anti-government protests in October, the Ministry of Tourism of Lebanon had established contacts with the Russian side and planned to implement programs of material support for companies willing to launch charter flights from Russia to Lebanon.
Anti-government demonstrations have been taking place across Lebanon since October 17. Protesters demand economic reforms and prosecution of all officials involved in corruption schemes. Prime Minister Saad Hariri resigned over a month ago amid nationwide protests but the demonstrations have not stopped since. The authorities have not yet been able to agree on the candidacy of a new Prime Minister.
