Lebanon Places Multiple Agencies on High Alert Amidst Rising Tensions with Israel

15 January

The Lebanese government has reportedly issued orders to several agencies, including ministries and hospitals, to be on high alert in anticipation of a potential outbreak of war with Israel, according to Bloomberg citing an undisclosed source.

Since October 8, 2023, Lebanon has allegedly launched over 2,000 rockets and 350 kamikaze drones towards Israel. This has resulted in casualties, including the death of 12 soldiers and 7 settlers, with 170 individuals sustaining injuries. The military escalation prompted the evacuation of 115,000 people from over 40 settlements in northern Israel, including the town of Qiryat Shemona, situated just 2.5 km from the border.

In southern Lebanon, Israeli attacks have killed 32 civilians, while the armed wing of the Shiite Hezbollah party has lost 153 fighters. The number of displaced individuals from the southern regions has risen to 75,000.
