The first batch of 20 thousand tons of Russian fertilizers will arrive in Malawi in the near future. This was announced by French President Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday in his Twitter.
"Thanks to the World Food Program, we have created a corridor to send Russian fertilizers to Africa," Macron wrote. - "The first shipment - 20,000 tons - of fertilizers has left the Netherlands and will arrive in Malawi in the next few days."
The French leader noted that the conflict in Ukraine has hindered access to fertilizers, which has had a negative impact on global food security. The president also stressed that "in the long term, it is necessary to establish cooperation between Europe and Africa to increase the production of fertilizers, which will reduce the dependence of the two continents on external supplies."
Earlier, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Vershinin said in an interview with the Izvestia newspaper that Russia urged the UN and European countries to start the process of exporting to Africa 280 thousand tons of Russian fertilizers that had been previously seized by several European countries. He also stressed that the Russian side decided that these fertilizers would be transferred to the countries in need, primarily on the African continent, free of charge.
