Belarus was able to prevent the country from repeating the Ukrainian scenario of the color revolution, organized from outside, Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei said opening a broad-based meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

"Today we have to respond to both internal and external challenges in the first place. Moreover, the latter largely determine the first. Nevertheless, I want to say that we withstood the first onslaught and did not allow the Ukrainian scenario to be implemented in Belarus, the scenario of a color revolution organized from outside," he said.

Makei noted that Belarus was in a zone of "high political turbulence" after the elections. "Today, there is a certain political confrontation [in Belarus], but its level of intensity is already much lower," he added.

Makei thanked Lavrov for Moscow's firm and clear position on the situation in the Republic. "I would like to express my gratitude to the Russian side for its sustained, competent and clear reaction to the events that unfolded in Belarus," he said. "It is obvious that Russia's balanced and extremely clear position acts as a counterweight that deters external forces from openly interfering in the internal affairs of the Republic of Belarus."

"This, in turn, gives us the opportunity to turn the situation into a more calm channel, establish a dialogue with society and determine ways out of the current situation," he added.

Makei said that Belarus is interested in exchanging views with the Russian side on all topical issues. "We are focused on open dialogue and are interested in exchanging views on all topical issues on the bilateral and multilateral agenda," he said.

According to him, Moscow and Minsk have not stopped their interaction, despite a number of unfavorable factors. "From the beginning, in the format of videoconferencing, we conducted a series of important events that have contributed to maintaining regional security, deepen cooperation in the field of human rights and in the consular area, said Makei. - Now we are working systematically to implement the agreements that we reached during your working visit to Minsk in June this year. We are actively preparing for the joint meeting of the foreign ministries of Belarus and Russia, which will be held in Minsk this autumn."

Moscow has repeatedly stated that the people of Belarus are able to cope with the current situation in the Republic on their own, calling on Western countries not to impose their own course of events.

During the meeting, Sergey Lavrov reported on the upcoming talks in Moscow in the next two weeks between the presidents of the two countries, Vladimir Putin and Alexander Lukashenko.

"This underlines our mutual intention to further develop equal and mutually beneficial relations, including within the framework of the Union state," the Minister said.

In addition, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin will visit Minsk on Thursday.
