Malaysia recalled ambassador from UAE over poor preparations for prime minister's visit to Dubai

11 April 2022

The Malaysian foreign ministry has recalled the ambassador and consul general in Dubai from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) due to poor preparation for the visit of Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob, the statement from the ministry reads.

"The prime minister was forced to spend a long time at the airport waiting to go through passport control and other immigration procedures," the statement said. In addition, "the host country did not provide an escort to ensure the safety of the movement of the prime minister's motorcade," the foreign ministry pointed out.

"Diplomats also failed to inform the ministry of plans for the World Government Summit, where organizers invited Ismail Sabri. As a result, the speech for the prime minister was not prepared," the ministry said.

The head of the government visited Dubai from March 27 to 31.
