The upcoming international business forum “World of Opportunities: Russia-ASEAN” in Malaysia, scheduled for November 26-27, will feature a plenary session focused on advancing trade and economic cooperation between Russia and ASEAN. The announcement comes from the Roscongress Foundation's official website.
Key participants include Russian Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Alexey Gruzdev, Roscongress Foundation CEO Alexander Stuglev, Ikhlas Capital founder and ASEAN Business Advisory Council Chair from Malaysia Nazir Razak, Lao Chamber of Commerce President and ASEAN Business Advisory Council Chair Udet Suvannavong, Minister of Digital Development of Tatarstan Ayrat Khayrullin, and Deputy Director of the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation Abu Bakar Yusof. Ivan Polyakov, Chair of the Russia-ASEAN Business Council, will moderate the session.
The forum’s agenda also features panel discussions on energy, digital transformation, healthcare, education, tourism, and an EAEU-ASEAN business dialogue. According to Polyakov, ASEAN’s robust GDP growth, domestic demand, and consumption remain critical drivers of the region’s economic development. “Russian businesses are ready to meet this rising demand by expanding the range of goods supplied, including agricultural products, fertilizers, pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, and ICT solutions,” he noted.
Anton Kobyakov, advisor to the Russian President, emphasized the strategic nature of Russia-ASEAN cooperation. “Global economic transformations could unlock new opportunities. The 'World of Opportunities: Russia-ASEAN' business forum will serve as a vital platform for discussing and strengthening trade and investment ties between Russia and ASEAN in areas such as energy, transport, technology, innovation, science, education, medicine, and tourism,” Kobyakov remarked.
The forum, supported by the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Russian Trade Representation in Malaysia, will bring together over 100 participants, including business leaders, academics, media representatives, and experts from various countries.
ASEAN, established in August 1967 by Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and the Philippines, later expanded to include Brunei, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, and Cambodia. Now at the center of integration efforts in the Asia-Pacific, ASEAN encompasses 8% of the global population and accounts for 3.5% of the world’s GDP.
