Malaysia has confidence in the Russian COVID vaccine Sputnik V and intends to purchase two batches of the drug, Ambassador to Moscow Bala Chandran told RIA Novosti.
According to the Ambassador, the Malaysian government has already publicly announced its intention to purchase Sputnik V for its population. "This reflects Malaysia's confidence in the reliability of the Russian vaccine," the Ambassador said.
He clarified that the purchase of the vaccine is being conducted at the business level - between business companies from Malaysia and Russia, at the B2B level. "There is currently a memorandum of understanding concluded between the parties... Negotiations are taking place between private companies, and logistics and transportation issues are being discussed," the diplomat explained.
"I emphasize that the Malaysian side has stated its desire to purchase the vaccine and has received agreement from the Russian side to sell this vaccine. This is the main thing. The project is being implemented between the companies, but I am sure that deliveries will take place in the near future," the agency's interlocutor added.
Sputnik V vaccine is registered in more than 50 countries with a total population of over 1.4 billion people. The vaccine's 91.6% effectiveness has been confirmed by the publication of data in the leading medical journal The Lancet. Sputnik V is based on a proven and well-studied platform of human adenoviral vectors. The drug uses two different vectors for two shots in the vaccination process, which forms more persistent immunity compared to vaccines that use the same delivery mechanism for both shots.
