The Maldives is committed to enhancing cooperation with Russia, regardless of global geopolitical dynamics, according to Russia's ambassador to Sri Lanka and the Maldives, Levan Dzhagaryan, following his meeting with Maldivian Defense Minister Mohamed Gassan Moomun.

“The minister praised the traditionally friendly bilateral relations between Russia and the Maldives and underscored the country’s commitment to advancing comprehensive cooperation with Moscow, independent of the current geopolitical climate,” Dzhagaryan stated.

The Maldivian minister also acknowledged the positive economic impact of Russian tourism on the Maldives and assured that Russian tourists can feel entirely safe during their stay on the islands.

In response, Ambassador Dzhagaryan confirmed Moscow’s readiness to cooperate across various sectors, with a primary focus on tourism.

According to the latest data from the Maldivian Ministry of Tourism, Russia remains the second-largest source of international visitors to the island nation, with nearly 178,000 Russian tourists recorded so far this year. Overall, the Maldives has welcomed over 1.6 million tourists this year, with China leading the list at over 236,000 visitors in the past ten months.
