The Republic of Maldives maintains excellent relations and a high level of cooperation with Russia, according to Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid. In an interview with TASS on Monday, Shahid expressed satisfaction with the strong coordination and cooperation between the two countries.
"We have very good relations with Russia. The level of coordination and cooperation with Moscow is excellent," the minister stated.
Shahid also highlighted the significant number of Maldivian students studying in Russia, particularly in the field of medicine. He expressed the hope of sending more students to Russia in the future.
The foreign minister recalled his visit to Moscow in 2019, during which he held productive discussions with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. The visit resulted in the signing of an agreement on mutual visa abolition. Shahid further mentioned the Maldives' plans to open an embassy in Moscow, which had been postponed due to the pandemic.
