Russia calls on Baku and Yerevan to resolve their differences through negotiations, and certain efforts are being made along diplomatic and parliamentary lines, Valentina Matvienko, speaker of the Federation Council, told reporters on Wednesday.

"As the Chairman of the CIS IAMN, I have received appeals from the Chairman of the Armenian Parliament and the Chairman of the Azerbaijani Parliament," the Senator said.

According to her, Russia is concerned about the current situation, since both Armenia and Azerbaijan are friendly, partner countries. "The main thing now is not to look for those responsible, but to immediately stop any fighting," she is sure.

The Senator noted that all measures were being taken through the diplomatic line to reduce the escalation, and Russia was also making efforts as a member of the Minsk Group.

In addition, efforts are being made on the parliamentary line. "We are very alarmed and concerned about this situation, and we will do everything to stop the escalation of tension and fighting," Matvienko said.

According to her, the Russian side's position is that there should be a negotiation process in which mutually acceptable solutions should be found.

The fighting that started on July 12 on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border continues in the neighboring regions of Tovuz and Tavush, which also border Georgia and are located several hundred kilometers from the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh, where the situation is now calm. In the place of attacks, there are combat posts stationed near the village of Movses. According to Baku, 11 Azerbaijani soldiers, including a General, were killed. The Armenian side announced the death of two officers and five wounded. Azerbaijan and Armenia blame each other for the attacks. A number of countries and international organizations expressed concern about the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and called on the parties to engage in dialogue. The Russian Foreign Ministry said it is ready to provide assistance to Baku and Yerevan to stabilize the situation.
