Matvienko: Russia counts on Bahrain's support for recognition of vaccination certificates

06 December 2021

Russia counts on the support of the Kingdom of Bahrain for the mutual recognition of vaccination certificates in the world, Federation Council Chairman Valentina Matvienko said at a meeting of the Advisory Council of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Bahrain.

"Advances in pharmacology should encourage the global community to mutual recognition of vaccination certificates. Russia has spoken with this proposal on the most authoritative platforms. We hope that Bahrain will add its voice in support of this proposal, " said the speaker of the Federation Council.

In her opinion, it is very important to open the possibility to communicate, to travel. "It's important for the growth of tourism, it's important for the growth of business activity. And we must move away from politicization of vaccines, we must move away from unfair competition and not violate basic rights of people: the right to travel, the right to choose a vaccine, the right to preserve one's life, which is the main thing", stressed Matvienko.

She noted that new challenges and threats make adjustments, including in plans for interaction between the countries, "but do not affect the pace of building cooperation" between Russia and Bahrain. "The coronavirus pandemic has attacked the economy of almost all states, hurting such sensitive sectors of your country as services and tourism. It was also one of the reasons for the decrease in mutual trade turnover between our countries. At the end of last year it was almost half of what it was before. But judging by the dynamics this year we will significantly increase the figures," the Speaker of the Upper Chamber of the Parliament said.

Matvienko also noted that the pandemic has proved that the economic development should be based on stability, fairness and competitiveness. "It is these provisions that lie at the heart of the economic vision to 2030, a policy document for the economy of Bahrain. Russia has a similar planning horizon. Thus, the priorities were formulated in the presidential decree on the national development goals of the Russian Federation for the period up to 2030. The document pays important attention to social tasks," she said.

"I know that Bahrain has recently presented a national economic growth plan that includes strategic reforms along five tracks. I sincerely wish you success and strength in its implementation," Matvienko added.
