Matviyenko Affirms Russia's Commitment to Peace in the Middle East

28 February

Valentina Matviyenko, Speaker of the Federation Council, reaffirmed Russia's steadfast commitment to facilitating peace in the Middle East region during a meeting with Yemeni Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak.

"We will persist in our efforts to promote peace and stability in the Middle East through diplomatic channels. Senators stand ready to offer all necessary support towards this goal," stated the Federation Council Speaker.

Matviyenko acknowledged Russia's close monitoring of the situation in Yemen, where a civil conflict has persisted for nine years. She empathized with the challenges faced by Yemen and condemned the recent escalation triggered by unlawful bombings by the US and Britain.

Highlighting the bombings as violations of international law, Matviyenko emphasized their counterproductive nature, exacerbating regional tensions without offering viable solutions.

The Federation Council Head expressed satisfaction with Russia and Yemen's alignment on matters concerning "peace, stability, and the establishment of a more equitable global order." Matviyenko anticipated that the Yemeni Foreign Minister's visit would invigorate the development of Russian-Yemeni relations, citing the countries' longstanding friendship.
