More than 100 thousand doses of Sputnik V vaccine will be supplied to Baku in the near future, the issue of production of Russian vaccines against coronavirus in Azerbaijan is being considered. Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko said this on Friday at a meeting with Azerbaijani Milli Majlis (parliament) speaker Sahiba Gafarova on the sidelines of the spring session of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly.

"I know that an agreement has been reached to deliver more than 100,000 doses of Sputnik V vaccine in April-May because we are well aware that the only way to really stop the pandemic is through mass vaccination," she said.

"We are ready not only to supply vaccines, but we are also considering, as far as I know, the production of these vaccines in Azerbaijan, which will accelerate mass vaccination and possibly export vaccines to other countries, thereby supporting the general mood of universal vaccination," the speaker of the Federation Council added.

In her view, it is important that mass vaccination take place in all countries so that it is possible to communicate freely and "go to visit each other."

"I believe that cooperation in this area will continue. We  are ready. We are now increasing production of the Sputnik vaccine every week and not only that. We have two more vaccines that are just as safe and effective," stated Matvienko.

The Speaker of the upper house of parliament noted that Russia is open for cooperation. "We are not hiding anything. We are not pursuing any commercial goals. We want to make our great contribution to the fight against the pandemic on the planet", she said.
