Media: Egypt Deploys Tanks Along Gaza Border Near Rafah Crossing Point

01 November 2023

Egypt has positioned tanks and other armored vehicles near the Rafah border crossing adjoining the Gaza Strip, as reported by The Times of Israel. The publication has released images depicting numerous armored vehicles lining the border with Gaza. According to the newspaper, these measures have been taken due to Egypt's concerns about a potential influx of tens of thousands of refugees amid the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Thus far, Egypt has kept the border sealed, permitting only humanitarian aid trucks to enter the Gaza Strip.

The Times of Israel also notes that the 1979 peace treaty imposes limitations on the number of forces Egypt can maintain in the Sinai Peninsula. However, Israel has previously allowed an increase in their presence to combat Islamist insurgents in the region.
