Some European Union (EU) countries have prepared proposals for sanctions against Iran in response to the alleged crackdown on women's protests, it is proposed to blacklist 16 individuals and organizations, Der Spiegel reported on Monday, citing diplomatic circles.

According to the newspaper, the initiators of the restrictions were Germany, Denmark, Spain, Italy, France and the Czech Republic. They are hoping that the decision on new sanctions at the EU level will be taken at a meeting of foreign ministers of the union on October 17.

Protest actions began in Iran on September 17 after the funeral of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini. According to the official version, this girl was detained by the morality police because she wore a headscarf improperly. When questioned, she had a heart attack, from which she died. On social media, however, it was reported that Amini was beaten by police officers.
