The Palestinian group Hamas has rejected all recent US proposals for a deal concerning hostages, according to sources cited by Israel's Channel 12.
American and Israeli officials involved in the negotiations revealed that Hamas has instead insisted on discussing only a plan proposed by US President Joe Biden in May 2024. This plan aimed to halt hostilities in the Gaza Strip and free hostages in three stages.
On August 15-16, talks were held in Doha, focused on achieving a ceasefire in Gaza and securing the release of hostages held by Hamas. A joint statement from Egypt, Qatar, and the US noted that the consultations took place in a positive atmosphere. However, subsequent rounds in Cairo and Doha on August 25 and 28 did not yield success.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has stated that a ceasefire deal in Gaza is 90% agreed upon, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu insists that the main obstacles are coming from Hamas. The Palestinian side, on the other hand, claims that it is the Israeli negotiators who are setting unacceptable conditions.
